Privacy Policy
TapRemote is a universal TV remote for iPhone, made by Cybercodex. It finds smart TVs on your home Wi-Fi and sends them remote-control commands. Commands go straight from your iPhone to your TV over your own network. They never pass through our servers, and the app has no accounts. It is free, with an optional subscription, and it uses Google's analytics and crash reports to understand how the app is used. Those services collect some data from your device, described below. The app shows no ads.
What the app uses on your iPhone
- Local Network (iOS asks "find and connect to devices on your local network"). Used to find TVs on your Wi-Fi and to send them commands, and to wake a TV that is in standby. The app talks only to the TVs you choose to connect.
- Your TVs' details. The name, brand, model, network address and hardware (MAC) address of each TV you add, its room name, and the pairing key or certificate the TV gives the app. They are stored on your iPhone, the pairing keys in the iOS Keychain. They are not sent to us.
- Family sharing of TVs (Premium, only if you turn it on). The list of your TVs and their pairing keys is synced through your own iCloud account so your other Apple devices can use them. It is stored by Apple under your Apple Account, not by us.
- Microphone and Speech Recognition (asked only when you first tap voice search). What you say is turned into text and typed on your TV. Recognition runs on your iPhone when iOS supports it; otherwise iOS sends the audio to Apple to be recognised, under Apple's privacy policy. We never receive or keep recordings.
- Clipboard. Read only when you tap Paste, to type that text on your TV.
- Photos and videos (only if you use Cast, asked when you first open it). The items you pick are sent directly to your TV on your Wi-Fi and are never uploaded to us.
Your settings and the TVs you added stay on your iPhone (and in your iCloud if you turn on family sharing).
What is collected, and by whom
- Google Analytics for Firebase (analytics). We record app events, for example that a TV was found or paired, which brand it was, how long connecting took, which features are used and when the subscription screen is opened. We never record what you type or say, or the network addresses of your TVs. Firebase adds an app-instance identifier, general device information and approximate location derived from your IP address. It does not use the advertising identifier: the app does not ask to track you. We use this only to improve the app. See Privacy and security in Firebase.
- Firebase Crashlytics (crash reports). If the app crashes, a report with the device model, iOS version, app version and the technical details of the error is sent so we can fix it. It carries an installation identifier, not your name.
- Firebase Remote Config. The app downloads its settings, such as which TV brands are switched on and what the free version includes. This uses a Firebase installation identifier and does not collect personal information.
- App Store (Premium). Apple handles every payment. We receive a confirmation that a purchase or subscription is active, never your payment details. Subscriptions are managed and cancelled in your Apple Account settings.
In App Store terms, the app collects device ID, product interaction, purchase history, crash data, performance data and coarse location through these services, for analytics and app functionality. None of it is linked to your identity or used to track you. Everything sent is sent over encrypted (HTTPS) connections. We do not sell your data.
Your choices
- Permissions: turn Local Network, Microphone, Speech Recognition or Photos off at any time in iOS Settings → TapRemote. Without Local Network the app cannot find or control TVs.
- Family sharing: turn it off in the app's Settings; the synced TV list is then removed from iCloud.
- Deletion: see Deleting your data.
Children
TapRemote is made for a general audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has used the app and want their data removed, contact us.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top and publish the new version at this address.
